In A 1930s Apartment, Maurice Sits. He is at home, in the Marital Bedroom. The alarm clock marks a late hour in the night. He drinks a last glass and finishes his bottle. Seated at a small desk, he takes out his journal, writes a few lines, and flips through the pages. To the strains of a tango, his love story with a man comes back to him: the man he loved meeting the woman he was to marry.
Maurice is a short, wordless, and versatile performance that recounts a time when openly living a love between men was impossible. Guillaume Hunout portrays the protagonist with great sensitivity, manipulating a few objects and images to give form to his characters’s memories.
